A new look at departure time choice equilibrium models with heterogeneous users

This paper presents a systematic approach for analyzing the departure-time choice equilibrium (DTCE) problem of single bottleneck with heterogeneous commuters. The is based on fact that DTCE equivalently represented as linear programming special structure, which can be analytically solved by exploiting theory optimal transport combined decomposition technique. By applying proposed to several types models commuters, it shown (i) essential condition emerging "sorting patterns," have been known in literature, schedule delay functions "Monge property," (ii) problems Monge property analytically, and (iii) applied more general than two heterogeneities.
